A donation to DSF can improve lots of things - including your organisation!

Why we need you

DSF receives almost 30% of its funding from the Department of Education & Training. That's great. But it isn't enough.

The rest comes from the fees we charge for our various services, from membership fees, book sales and corporate and private donations.

The services provided by DSF are vital to the well-being of individuals, the long-term success of companies such as yours and even the ability of our nation to compete in a global marketplace.

We need a steady and sustained flow of funds to ensure we can maintain our current operations. We would also like to think we can attract  a number of long-sighted partners who will kick start our research program and support our future endeavours.

A donation to DSF Literacy and Clinical Services can improve lots of things - including your business

No matter what business or industry your company embraces, you will hopefully need to take on new staff in the foreseeable future. You will want the best. You will expect certain levels of education. You will seek recruits who are capable of being trained in your organisation's field of expertise.

But you may well be disappointed.

The basic abilities to read, write, and comprehend and communicate are taken for granted by most. But, according to Western Australian government estimates, more than 20% of school students are at risk of failing to meet an appropriate level of educational attainment as a result of learning difficulties or disabilities.

A recent global survey of literacy and numeracy among school children showed that almost 40% of fifteen year old Australian students fell short of the levels required to achieve reasonable (or functional) literacy skills.

Now's not the time to debate the whys and wherefores; now's not the time to lay blame; now's the time to do something positive, to make sure the problem is addressed, to make sure that people you hire in the future can read, write, comprehend and communicate in ways that will enhance your organisation and improve its chance of success.
